With their smaller scale, subsistence hunting traps are devoid of mass slaughter present in contemporary fishing technologies. Referencing a traditional fish trap called a “pinter”, this shackle represents the current relationship humans have with the oceans, where humans are shackling themselves to a future where all they can catch from the oceans are stones. Carved from foraged jasper, the “fish” is an effigy of its former self.
Exhibited live at Society of North American Goldsmiths' Tucson conference under the exhibition "Mineral Minded", between the dates February 5th to 7th, 2026.
